UCLA Flow Cytometry Core Facility

Dear JCCC flow cytometery core users, given the difficulty and perhaps uncertainty that the corona virus pandemic has brought us, we wanted everyone to know that as a shared resource lab we are committed to preserving the health and well being of our staff, our users, and the entire UCLA community.  We will continue to follow Vice Chancellor Wakimoto's and DGSOM guidance regarding COVID-19  practices.

Given that the situation regarding research operations at UCLA is rapidly evolving we would like to encourage everyone to please check email often as messaging through iLabs will be our primary mode of communication regarding  all Flow Core operations.  At this point in time there are NO MANDATORY changes for research labs in the DGSOM and as such the JCCC Flow Cytometry core will remain open.  We are commited to helping the UCLA research community even under extreme circumsances.  We will make every effort to conduct business as usual provided we are not instructed to shut down.

We would like to emphasize a few common sense precautions:

We ask that all users entering flow core space exercise proper washing of hands, proper use of gloves, lab coats and other PPE.  For those that have sorting appointments please limit interaction time with staff to the bare minimum and do so at a reasonable distance.  For those having analysis appointments, both assisted and independent, please minimize time spent in our communal areas and exercise social distancing and good hygiene.

We will do everything possible to inform our users of any changes to this should they occur.  We thank you for allowing us to be a part of your research and hope everyone exercises good common sense practices and stays healthy.

The Janis V. Giorgi Flow Cytometry Laboratory:

A Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center and Center for AIDS Research Shared Flow Cytometry Resource

The Core Laboratory provides instrumentation and technical and professional assistance for performing laser-based flow cytometric analysis and sorting.  The facility operates eight instruments from BD Biosciences: one modified two-laser FACScan analyzer, one two-laser FACSCalibur analyzer, one three-laser BD-LSR II analyzer, one three laser BD LSRFortessa X-20 analyzer, one five-laser BD LSRII analyzer, and for cell sorting, the laboratory has three BD FACSAria high-speed cell sorters, one of them contained in a ClassII biosafety cabinet.  The facility also operates a RoboSep, an automated immunomagnetic bead cell separator from STEMCELL Technologies.
